Counsellor at the African Affairs Directorate of Gambiaโs Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad Mr. Alieu Jatta passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) after a period of illness.
Announcing Jattaโs demise the Ministry described him as a dedicated public servant, very humble and pious.
According to the Ministry, he served with diligence, integrity, and unwavering commitment, calm disposition, professionalism, and devotion to duty earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and partners alike.
โDuring his distinguished career, Mr. Jatta served as First Secretary at the Gambian Embassy in Brussels, Belgium. Upon returning from his posting in 2024, he served as a Protocol Officer in the Protocol Department before joining the African Affairs Directorate at the Ministry, where he continued to contribute significantly to the countryโs diplomatic efforts.โ
Expressing sympathy, the Ministry, under the leadership of His Excellency Sering Modou Njie, extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with Mr. Alieu Jatta.
โAs we observe the holy month of Ramadan, a period of reflection, mercy, and forgiveness, we pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives his shortcomings, grants him Jannatul Firdaus, and blesses his family with patience and strength to bear this profound loss,โ the ministry prayed for the repose of the soul.
