The Brikama Sports Committee has received a significant boost ahead of this year’s highly anticipated “H.E. President Adama Barrow Ramadan Night Football Tournament.”
Today, the committee officially took delivery of seven new floodlights valued at three hundred eighty-five thousand dalasi (D385,000), a generous donation from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The equipment was received by the committee’s Executive Officer, Yusupha Ceesay, who confirmed that the lights will be installed at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.
This upgrade aims to ensure the tournament runs smoothly, addressing the challenges of poor lighting experienced last year.
Speaking at the handover event, Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports, expressed his commitment to supporting youth sports development and pledged to attend the tournament’s opening.
“Brikama football deserves the best facilities, and these floodlights will allow the youth to showcase their talents safely and proudly,” he said.
PS Bulli Dibba, Chairperson of the Brikama Sports Committee, emphasized that security measures will be fully implemented to guarantee a smooth and disturbance-free tournament.
Meanwhile, Mahmoud Lamin Jawla, Acting Executive Director of The Gambia National Sports Council (NSC), praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of investing in sports as a means of youth empowerment.
With the new lights, the Brikama Mini Stadium is now prepared to host exciting night matches, and fans can expect an unforgettable Ramadan tournament, especially as the Gambian leader will be sponsoring the trophies.
