The Republic of The Gambia and the Kingdom of Spain have conducted Political Consultations on Friday, February 27, 2025, reaffirming the strong and cordial relations between the two countries.
The consultations were led by His Excellency Mr. Diego Martinez Belio, the State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs of Spain, and Ambassador Lang Yabou, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad of The Gambia.
This meeting took place under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two governments in 2023.
A key focus of the discussions was to review the progress of bilateral cooperation and to explore new pathways for enhanced partnerships.
The consultations were conducted in a spirit of mutual respect and a shared commitment to the ties that unite the two countries.
The discussions centered on important areas of common interest, including political affairs, trade and investment, tourism, education, peace and security, migration management, governance, and global issues relating to the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Both parties emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue and coordinated action to address shared challenges and advance mutual priorities.
This meeting further strengthened the existing cooperation between The Gambia and the Kingdom of Spain and opened up opportunities to explore new and emerging areas for collaboration that would benefit both nations.
At the conclusion of the consultations, both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and maintaining regular high-level engagement within the established MOU framework.
